GPU acceleration for Adobe Flash
Good news for current and up-coming ION and GeForce device owners. Almost one year ago Adobe announced to start working with NVIDIA on the support of hardware acceleration of Flash-based HD content decoding through the GPU. At Adobe MAX on October 5, 2009 Adobe unveiled the next release of Adobe Flash Player featuring GPU acceleration.
Adobe Flash changed the way we experience online content. Animations, Games, online clips and videos are now accessible for the average internet user. However, despite its huge possibilities creating dynamic content it is also known to be a CPU intensive functionality.
Adobe and NVIDIA now combine forces to blend their offline and online technologies. Through NVIDIA CUDA technology Adobe Flash Player 10.1 has been cranked up to support GPU hardware acceleration. With the new release, all NVIDIA graphics based products including GeForce, Quadro, ION and Tegra will be able to lend their computing power to the World Wide Web.
The rendering and decoding Flash content on the GPU will bring drastic improvements on responsiveness of the system, playback frame rate and graphics quality. The ability to use this graphics calculation power online will definitely open up the door for web-based High definition (h.264), three dimensional online games, online videoconferencing and many more!
Both the Point of View GeForce and Mobii ION product lines will be able to take advantage of this new technology. For instance, low-cost single core Atom 230 devices with NVIDIA ION will support even better performance in running high definition content. Better performance, better user experience and a better value for your money!
